Shades of yellow - Home accessories - part 3 - Quilted sunshine pillow case

  • Collect a lot of smaller pieces - different qualities, a variety of yellow shades (could be leftovers or from old clothes).
  • You also need a zipper 40 - 45 cm, batting material 55 x 55 cm, viscose and lining material, the same size. (Finished size of the pillow case: 50 x 50 cm).

Sew two pieces together.

Iron the pieces on the front side so that both seam allowances go to one side on the back.

Cut the surplus of the fabric so ...

that you can add the next piece of fabric

Now iron it well again

It looks from the back side like this (after ironing):

Continue circular withe different pieces of fabric, don´t forget to iron the work properly after every stitching line.

When the piece is at the size of about 52 x 52 cm, put a prepaired stencil of the meassurements 50 x 50 cm on top of the sewn piece and cut a square with a seam allowance of 1 cm on all sides.

Make a sandwich of a lining material (viscose), batting and the sewn sqaure and pin the three layers together.

Now you can do running stitches near each seam by hand or with a quilting machine.
After having finished the whole piece cut the surplus fabric and batting.
If you like you can make a few embroidery stitches on the seams (cross stitches).

For the back side of the pillow case use a cotton fabric - same size - insert a zipper app. 7 cm from the lower edge. Pin the quilting and the lining and sew around from the left side. Then turn it iron it well and insert a down cushion. --> you´ll  receive a quilted sunshine pollow case !
